Contemporary Photojournalism

For this assignment my creative expression format is going to be a collage of Artificial Intelligence potential future role in photojournalism, or a potential threat to photojournalists and the influence of pictures/stories to the directed audience. The ideas I am trying to express are AI taking over the job of taking pictures in many different scenarios, some may say this is good due to the safety factor in potentially dangerous situations. Another risk with AI in photojournalism is the ability to deepfake and alter the appearance of photo or video. I chose a collage because I felt I could best express my idea about this with a variety of specifically generated images with my ideas written out, I tend to struggle with artistic expression of ideas I feel are best expressed with word. I get excited about giving my opinion on controversial/crucial topics.

  A. "Goin' home" taken by Ed Clark B. This picture, named "going home" is an interesting take with seemingly high amounts of emotion being captured in frame. I honestly can't tell if these are tears of joy or tears of sadness. Based on the way it looks I would have to think they are from sadness, it actually looks a lot like a military memorial service, possibly a service for one of his fallen brothers. The people in the background look sad too, focusing on their body language everyone looks very down and gloomy. If I had to guess when this picture is taken from I'd have to guess somewhere between 1951-1963, basing this off of the black-and-white, wars at the time, clothing of bystanders, and style of architecture. It looks like it was taken somewhere in the south as well, big white houses with columns for support. Maybe Virginia, Carolinas, or Georgia. Ground Zero 9/11/2001

Taken by Thomas E. Franklin 9/11 ground zero raising the flag I felt this picture perfectly illustrates what photojournalism, a picture taken of a significant event that can tell a story, even without knowing any sort of context. The photographer here seems to be trying to convey the message of "we are still standing (as in the people/ United States). You don't even have to know about the terror attacks to know this picture is about resilience.
