Quotes:
B. Through out history another industry where women were majorly outnumbered or constantly slandered for being in, is finance/business. It used to be popular belief and even some still do today that women do/did not belong in finance at all and they used to face constant backlash and harassment from coworkers, bosses, and even clients. Some of the challenges faced were "invisible glass ceiling" of promotions, the gender wage gap, overlapping responsibilites such as being a mom, and fear of failure, if the system in business is known to be unfavored/unfair for women they may feel less inclined to work as hard or feel discouraged about their work.
C.
In the video Women in Photojournalism at 0:42 says "women photojournalists along with women in many other different professions have encountered barriers unlike any their male counterparts have endured" it is much like this in finance and business, as I refer to in section B about some of those challenges.
He also mentions in Women in Photojournalism at 0:58 was talking about Frances Benjamin Johnston and her Photojournalism strategies of pictures, he says "this is a self portrait where she depicted herself smoking, holding a mug of beer, with her petticoat showing, this image was scandalous at the time" I can do nothing but relate it to how Nan Goldin portrayed her art, breaking photographic norms and challenging what people see in pictures, including scandalous behavior.
This point I agree with him on as well in the Content 9 module where Professor Nordell was informing us about Dee Dwyer, I couldn't help but relate her with Nan Goldin. Dee Dwyer talked about her mission and what she and her group does "The Authority Collective is a group of more than 200 womxn, non-binary and gender expansive people of color working in the photography, film and VR/AR industries.
Our mission is to empower marginalized artists with resources and community, and to take action against systemic and individual abuses in the world of lens-based editorial, documentary and commercial visual work." I feel Nan Goldin had this same mission with her work, pushing boundaries to support the LGBT.
